The Lord’s Workers In Satan’s Field By Jimmy Stevens

INTRODUCTION: Matt 9:35-10:7, a principle applies today.

  1. The work of the church is to declare “the gospel of the kingdom Christ” to save the lost

    and edify the saved.

  2. Sin causes anyone to be lost whether Christian or not. The church must deal with sin directly and through prevention. 1 Tim 3:15

D. There are three things necessary for the church to do her work.

  1. FIELD or area of work.

  2. TOOL to that will work in the FIELD.

  3. PERSONNEL ready to use the TOOL in the FIELD.

  4. FIELD. Sin.

  5. TOOL to defeat sin.

    1. The Gospel, Rom 1:16, Heb 4:12, Eph 6:11, 14-17, 2 Cor 10:4-6

    2. The gospel is useless unless used correctly. Gal 1:6-7, 2 Pet 3:14-16, 2 Tim 2:2

    3. The gospel can only be properly used by the right PERSONNEL.

III. PERSONNEL.Matt9:38,"laborers”

  1. The Lord needs those who understand the FIELD—the needs of sinners, know how to

use the TOOL—the gospel, and who will do their best to use the TOOL in the FIELD.

  2. PERSONNEL named:

  3. Teachers, Eph 4:11, 1 Cor 12:28

  4. Preachers, 2 Tim 4:2-5

  5. Elders, 1 Tim 3:1, Acts 20:28

  6. Deacons, Phil 1:1, 1 Tim 3:13

  7. Christians, Eph 4:16, 1 Pet 3:15

IV. Wrong source for PERSONNEL
A. Where does the PERSONNEL come from?

  1. Elders? Born? Default? Age? Simply Married with children? Business leadership? Civic Involvement?

  2. Deacons? Popularity?

  3. Preachers? Universities? Schools of preaching? Seminaries? If all else fails?

  4. Teachers? Delinquency? “Somebody else do it?”

  5. Christian leaders and examples? Popular denominational figures—Billy or Franklin

Graham? Joel Osteen? Max Lucado? Pope?

B. Satan provides the FIELD, God provides the TOOL, and every local church should strive

to produce the PERSONNEL.

V. Right source for PERSONNEL

  1. Individual Christian, 2 Tim 2:15, 1 Pet 3:15, 2 Pet 3:18, Heb 5:12-14

  2. The church, Acts 20:28, Eph 4:11-12, Col 3:16, Heb 10:24-25

VI. Challenges in becoming part of the PERSONNEL.

  1. Ask, “Can I improve and grow to fit the Lord’s needs in these areas?” Decide what you

    can do, then do it.

  2. If you can do more as a worker for the Lord, what would God say you if you don’t?

  3. Many wait for a better time, an unsought calling or unexpected surge of talent. It is possible for one to suppress God given ability by being dishonest with himself? You and

only you can determine the divine calling to work. There will not be some mysterious or mystical vision or sign. If you truly love the Lord, study his word and see what God wants his people to do, you will always be seeking to improve in your service.

VII. Producing PERSONNEL.
A. Personally prepare to preach and teach the gospel, in any capacity.

  1. Men, work to serve as a qualified elders, deacons or strong members.

  2. Women, be teachers of friends, children, young ladies. Titus 2:3. Being a capable

“older” teacher begins when you are young or when older than others who need

    teaching.

  3. Wives, be godly examples and sources of knowledge, strength, courage, dignity,

maturity, decency, and energy for their husbands and children, especially to husbands

who serve as elders, deacons, preachers, godly Christians men.

  4. Parents, teach children how to serve God. Regular Bible reading and study. Be seen

reading and studying the Bible. Commend (not run-down) the efforts of faithful members of the church. You are training children to be responsible adults to be part of the PERSONNEL of God’s workers.

  5. WARNING! To Christians who are not trying their best, Matt 12:30, 6:24, Rev 3:16

  6. If we don’t become the PERSONNEL to do the Lord’s work WHO WILL?

CONCLUSION: Only you and I can help the church here. Let us always look for ways to improve as the Lord’s Workers in Satan’s Field.
